“To Farmers, Remember these Words; the Way you Feed your Beloved

Children, is the same Way in Principle as the Way you Should

Feed your Crops. It Must be Complete according to Menu, Balanced, in the

Right Amount and Fed at the Right Time, in the Right Manner.”  By RRC.

1.    What is Rhizocote ?

“Rhizo” means root and “cote” means food reserve as in cotyledon of seeds. Rhizocote is a biologically-balanced full-spectrum micronutrient formulation that is intended to correct the specific and/or general micronutrient deficiencies in the soil and in growing crops, for healthy growth and high productivity.  Micronutrient deficiencies in the soil and in plant tissues are usually due to visible and sub-clinical depletion of the soil reserves of these individual nutrients and/or its unavailability because of chemical fixation of the still present elements with soil aluminum, iron or manganese, which is the usual case in acidic soil.

Rhizocote is protected with an exclusive “anti-fixation formula” and reinforced with special vita-minerals that trigger the proliferation and activities of  “native-to-the-soil”  bio-nitrogen producers and mycorrhizal fungi, to make the soil more fertile, more organic, while rendering the fixated nutrients absorbable.

2.   What is meant by biologically-balanced ?

It means that the levels of micronutrients in Rhizocote are in accordance with the established minimum amounts needed by the plants to grow normally and productive (based on Epstein Value), taking into consideration the potential supplying capacity of the general soil in the Philippines.  If actual soil data and the information on the type of crop and variety are available, as in the case of corporate farms, we can formulate Rhizocote based on what is really needed by the specific soil and crop.

3.    Why does a Farmer need to use Rhizocote ?

With prolonged and continued cultivation of the soil and crop removal, without replenishing the lost micronutrients, as farmers normally apply only NPK fertilizers, the naturally-occurring micronutrients in the soil consequently become

depleted, while those that are still present, because of acidic soil condition, become fixated and  cannot  be  absorbed  by  the plants.  With the deficiency of even just a single micronutrient, the farmer cannot grow a truly productive crop. Rhizocote therefore is necessary to replenish whichever micronutrient that is depleted or fixated, and preserve those that are still adequate and available, to prevent future depletion.

4.    Is Rhizocote Organic ?

Rhizocote is a bio-organic fertilizer.  It contains exclusive organic vita-minerals that trigger the multiplication of beneficial native-to-the-soil Bluegreen Algae and mychorrizal fungi whose biomass can rebuild the lost  organic matter of the soil.  In irrigated rice farms, Rhizocote can abundantly grow Bluegreen algae (mostly spirulina) which is a very nutritious organic material. And what is more valuable is, that Bluegreen algae consumes excess acids in the soil during its chemosynthesis of additional fertilizer Nitrogen - for your crop, from Nitrogen in the atmosphere. Thus through Rhizocote, “Urea” is added into the soil with “liming-effect”.

5.    How Rhizocote differs from other Micronutrient Preparations ?

Rhizocote agricultural micronurients is not only complete (except chlorine, because it is usually still abundant in the soil and in the air), but also reinforced with an exclusive “anti-fixation formula” and vita-minerals.  Likewise, Rhizocote users are provided with free-of-charge technical assistance as to the best and most economical fertilization program to apply to the customer-farm, in combination with Rhizocote.  As mentioned above, we can even tailor-made the Rhizocote formula for large users with soil and crop data.

6.  Others say that Organic Fertilizers also contain micronutrients, could these be used as substitute for Rhizocote ?

Organic fertilizers are good soil conditioners and organic provider, but are always inadequate in vital micronutrients.  The presence of micronutrients in

organic fertilizer is incidental and dependent on the fertility of the land on which the organic material was grown (in the case of green manure) or in the nutrient

value of feeds and the residual potential of animal wastes (in case of animal manure).  Likewise, micronutrients in organic fertilizers must first be mineralized before it can be absorbed by the plants.  A crop can only be productive if all the nutrients that it needs are supplied in the right amount, at the right balance and at

the right time. - - and only through Rhizocote and its attendant technical service, the “Unladsaka” fertilization programming, can make these matters done.

7.   How much Rhizocote is needed and at what cost ?

For rice and corn, we recommend 6 kilos per hectare.  For crops such as vegetables, sugarcane, mango and banana, we recommend 16 kilos to 34 kilos per hectare, depending on age or size of plants and plant population.  The retail

price of Rhizocote varies with the location of the area.  It is usually sold at Php 300 per kilo depending on location, with free lectures and technical assistance on fertilizer programming and soil rejuvenation.

8.  How do we apply Rhizocote  and other Fertilizer Nutrients to our crops ?

In every moment of the plant’s life, new cells are produced. And to every cell, it must be complete, balanced and simultaneously supplied with the needed nutrients, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sulfur, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper up to Molybdenum. What will happen to the plant’s cell if upon its birth, only nitrogen was applied to the farm, or only Potash or mono or diammonium Phosphate. What if only Zinc, or Boron or Ferrous is applied? And what if this cell becomes your leaf-tissue, or your bunch? Naturally, it will be a sickly plant with low yield. But this is what usually is happening to many of our banana plantations, rice, corn and vegetable farms !

“Remember the words, feeding your crops is the same in principle as feeding you beloved children.”

So we have to analyze your soil, know what it lacks, by how much, then put whatever is lacking at where the plant can absorb them, mixed and simultaneously.

9.  Do we apply the Fertilizers as Side-dress on top of the soil? Or better

Burrow them into 2 to 3 Ground Holes per Hill ?

If you just apply the expensive fertilizers on soil-top, in the case of banana, coconuts and orchards, you will be throwing away 40% to 80% of the fertilizers that you applied.  Why?

Because the coming of rain is very much faster than the absorption of water into the soil. So where will the excess rainwater go? Naturally to side-flow, to the drainage, together with your dissolved but now wasted fertilizers !

For irrigated rice however, following the traditional practice of basal and top-dress fertilizer applications, provided done at the recommended timing or schedules, is satisfactory. Please see the recommended general fertilization for irrigated rice.

10.  But is it not that Holing the Fertilizers is Expensive?  And needs more

       laborers to apply ?

No, it is not. Per hectare of banana, as example, what you simply do is apply the fertilizers in only 6 frequencies a year, then hire 2 laborers to dig small and shallow 3 holes per hill, and five laborers to mix the fertilizers then apply in holes and cover them, per application. Thus you will need only 42 Man-days per hectare per year. Also, we are now developing manual applicators together with spiking the fertilizers to further simplify the holing application.

But before attempting to use Rhizocote, please consult first our dealers and/or field technicians.  They are ready to guide you on how to maximize your harvest, while saving on fertilizer cost. Or contact us through the HOTLINE NUMBERS below, and request for a free orientation at your place of convenience.
